To contribute to their visibility on the university campus, Eindhoven AI-Systems Institute (EAISI) commissioned Interactive Matter to create a recognisable light sign. The result is a 320x220cm mobile frame with 27 individually 3D printed letters. In total over 2700 light pixels create a led grid displaying custom animations and generative visualisations.

For this project Interactive Matter developed a system where letters, including a light diffuser, can be 3D printed. An image interpretation algorithm was created to scan each individual pixel’s position on the grid, resulting in precise control.

Custom control hardware and software was made in order to allow the client to schedule pre-curated animations or compose their own animations. The sign is placed on a mobile platform, allowing it to be moved around throughout the office space.
